Plans for this year’s Mint Hill Madness are well underway and the four-man Board of Directors is looking for ways to make it bigger and better than ever. Board members Dalton Taylor, Tony Long, Julian Venable, and Scott Harris have been working quietly behind the scenes for the past few months.
“Right now we’re putting finishing touches on several key components for planning,” says Dalton Taylor. “Our 501 (c)(3) status is very, very close to being finalized, our website is being built, and applications are being updated.”
Dalton says once these pieces are done and in place, they can line up vendors, entertainment, and solicit volunteer organizations for assistance.
“We want to run this so that the volunteer organizations that help can generate money for their non-profit,” says Taylor.
Board member Julian Venable says the Board is committed to the project and knows Mint Hill residents are supportive.
“We’ve been working hard so this thing won’t fall by the wayside,” says Venable. “We’re going to have this big old show on Memorial Day, and that’s just about seven and a half months away.”
True to the spirit of Mint Hill Madness, there will be games, rides, entertainment, food, arts and crafts, and the fireworks on Saturday night. The show will kick off with a parade and the Mint Hill Lions 5K race.
“It will be back at the Park on Fairview, which will officially be Mint Hill Veteran’s Memorial Park by then,” says Taylor.
The next few weeks will be very busy as the website and phone numbers get up and running. The Board is hoping more citizens and community groups will come forward with a willingness to help.
“We are a four-man board, with emphasis on ‘man,’” says Taylor. “We’d love to have some women to come forward, and others with creative ideas who are willing to get things done.”
Even though the concept of a three-day festival is the same, Taylor says they are really interested in new ideas and a new direction.
Mint Hill Madness will run Friday, May 23-Sunday, May 25, 2014, with Monday, May 26 being reserved for a rain out day.
