Fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning a photography studio, recent college graduate Candice Wood, a native of Mint Hill, has opened her own studio located in the Mint Hill Village.

Wood recently graduated with two degrees from Randolph Community College in Portrait Studio Management and Bio-communications Photography. She has completed four internships, each lasting eight weeks, with Amelia and Dan Photography in Charleston, S.C., and then Crystal Lee Photography, Erin Dietrich Photography, and Gene Ho Photography all located in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Candice Wood Photography opened its door the beginning of October of this year and is ready for business. Wood specializes in wedding photography, but also shoots a variety of sessions including newborns, engagement, portraits, maternity, senior portraits, and anniversary shots.

Having the most experience in wedding photography, Wood says her focus is currently on wedding shoots, but she is open to trying new ideas.

“I love to do weddings because I get to be a part of one of the most important days in a person’s life,” said Wood.

She will go anywhere on location to capture the perfect shot, along with in-studio sessions. Unlike many photography studios, Wood doesn’t have time or outfit change restrictions.

Some of her favorite photo shoots are in the homes of her clients, in a natural and relaxing atmosphere. Moments like cooking as a family, giggling on the couch, or the classic shot of the whole family on the bed are unique and special photos that can’t be dupli- cated.

“I really like going into people’s homes and cap- turing their family’s personality in the element of their home when they are most comfortable,” said Wood. “I like to capture a person’s character, not the ‘turn head this way or that way’.” Customers have the option of either buying prints or purchasing a disk of the pictures. There is also an online gallery where you can choose pictures to have printed.

All sessions are currently 30 percent off and wedding sessions are $100 off.

For those hoping to improve their photography skills, Wood will be hosting a Camera 101 class Saturday, November 3 from 3-6 pm. The session will be a great time to learn new techniques for taking pictures. A camera will be required and the class will be $100, due at reservation. The session will be at the new studio, and snacks and beverages will be provided. More information can be found on her website.

“I’m so excited to have the chance to open my business here in Mint Hill. It’s my home, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” said Wood.

Wood can be contacted by phone at 704-942-7877 or at the studio located at 4520 Mint Hill Village Lane, Suite 105.
