Mint Hill Arts settles into new space

 

Mint Hill Arts moved into its new space in the Mint Hill Plaza on Lawyers Road this January, signing a two-year lease with the option to renew.  The organization moved after four years in its first space off Matthews-Mint Hill Road.
The rented space includes three suites, one of which was not available for the first month and a half.  Now that all of the space is available, classrooms and galleries are being rearranged.  Renovations include painting walls and installing plumbing for washing brushes.

Pillars erected at KWV Memorial

 

 

Pillars were erected last Wednesday and Thursday at the NC Korean War Veterans Memorial at Mint Hill Park on Fairview.  The pillars are engraved with 789 names, each one a North Carolinian soldier missing in action from those three years of war.
The next phases of construction include installing a fountain in the center representing the taegeuk of South Korea’s flag, laying granite pavers, positioning four granite benches around the fountain, and planting encircling cherry trees.

Manchester Auto car wash / free inspections April 21

Saturday, April 21 from 9-1 pm, Manchester Auto & Tire will have free car washes and free car inspections to benefit the Indpendence wrestling team. All tips and donations will go to help pay for wrestling camp and to purchase new equipment.

The Mint Hill Board of Commissioners will meet April 12 to discuss rezoning amendments affecting the development plan approval procedures.
Currently, Mint Hill holds joint public hearings, requiring the Board of Commissioners and the Planning Board to meet together.  The proposed changes would eliminate the Planning Board’s required attendance.  State statues do not require the Planning Board to attend the meeting.

County decides on fire tax for ETJ

The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners held its final vote April 3 to move forward with the fire tax that would create funding for unincorporated areas.  The tax rate has not yet been decided, but Fire Marshal Mark Auten says it will be between 4.5-7 cents per $100 based on property value.
