Ed Driggs, a retired businessman and financial analyst, announced his intention to file for the District 6 County Commission seat as a Republican, challenging the long-time incumbent, Bill James.
Driggs plans to focus his campaign on effective government, economic opportunity, and public safety.  He pledges to seek fair treatment for District 6 in county decisions and spending allocations.
The announcement took place Tuesday on the steps of the Matthews Town Hall. Driggs released his priorities and a list of supporters who have already signed on to join him in the campaign.
Driggs said that his decision to run was motivated by his desire to restore honor and effectiveness to the District 6 seat. “It is time to be proud to be a Republican again.”
Driggs said, “I am in this race because I am concerned about the direction government has taken at all levels in our country.  We need to bring civility and common sense back to our local government, and it starts here in District 6.”
Driggs says he starts this campaign in a strong financial position.
