Mayor Ted Biggers was sworn in for another term last Thursday.

Mint Hill Commissioners were sworn back in on December 8 at the monthly regular board of commissioners meeting. The election results were certified by the town clerk who also gave the oath of office to Mayor Ted Biggers. Lloyd Austin was elected as mayor pro tem. There were no changes to committee assignments.

Longtime Mint Hill resident struck by truck

Mint Hill TimesLongtime Mint Hill resident Erskine Payne Phillips, 82, was struck by a truck while attempting to cross Matthews-Mint Hill Road at McEwen Funeral Home at around 7 pm last Thursday evening. Phillips had been attending a wake at the funeral home and was on his way back to his home which was across the four-lane street.
Traffic was heavier due to a large number of cars at the funeral home for the wake.
Phillips was transported to Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the truck was not speeding or under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident, according to the Mint Hill Police. The driver stopped at the scene. No charges are expected to be filed.
