The Independence Patriot football team defeated South Meck 42-28 on Thursday night.  After trailing 21-7 at halftime, the Patriots scored on all five possessions in the second half to earn the win.

Running backs RJ Baker and Isiah Robinson each ran for over 100 yards.  Baker scored once and Robinson ran for two touchdowns.  Indy’s offensive line was unstoppable, allowing the Patriot offense to run the ball at will.  Right tackle Tim Miller, right guard Cam Johnson, center Ben Wetherby, left guard Demetree Hardison, and left tackle Drew Morgan led the show as their offense put up 35 second-half points.

Head Coach Bill Geiler couldn’t say enough about his offensive line after the victory.

“They buy into what Coach Brown tells them in the weight room.  They eat what he tells them, they lift when he tells them, and they run when he tells them.  They’ll go to war for him any day.  These guys love him, and they work hard.”

Quarterback Evan Guest was only 6 of 14 for 103 yards, but that was enough as the ground game stole the show in this contest.  Guest scored two rushing touchdowns.  In the third quarter he hit Austin Duke for a 23-yard scoring strike.

The win puts Indy’s record to 7-1 on the season.  The Patriots are tied for second in the Southwestern 4A Conference with Ardrey Kell.  Both of those teams are one game behind Butler, who is undefeated in conference play.

Independence hosts Rocky River next Friday night for the Patriots’ annual homecoming game.
