Former Indy player chosen by Packers in NFL draft

D.J. Smith, who won four consecutive state titles with the Independence Patriots ending in 2006, was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the sixth round of last week’s draft. Smith played linebacker at Appalachian State the last four years and is projected to play special teams with the Packers. However, being drafted in the 6th round doesn’t always indicate how much playing time one will get. After all, both Tom Brady and Terrell Davis were drafted in the sixth rounds and both went on to help their teams win a combined five Super Bowls.
