The Town of Matthews is launching a Façade Enhancement Grant program for businesses in the Downtown Overlay District. Businesses in this district may apply for funds to improve the facades of their buildings.
Projects that may be eligible include: canvas style awnings, paint removal from brick surfaces, cornice repairs, mortar repair, masonry repair and/or cleaning, repair/replacement of windows and doors, removal of false facades and other inappropriate additions and pedestrian friendly enhancements.
The grant program is a 50/50 match and the maximum grant amount is $2,500 per façade project.
“We are pleased that we are able to make these grant monies available to our downtown business owners. We hope that this program will encourage private investment, restoration of older buildings and the preservation of the character of our downtown district,” said Assistant Town Manager Jamie Justice, who oversees the Town’s Economic Development Program.
This project is one of several initiatives by the Town Board and the Economic Development Advisory Committee as they work to “Get Connected” to businesses who are located in the Town or who may want to locate in Matthews.
