Butler Sweeps Independence to Wrap Up Regular Season

The Butler Boys’ basketball team beat Independence 77-71 last Friday night.  The win gave Butler a perfect 14-0 record in the Southwestern 4A Conference.

The Bulldogs’ Marcus Burton led all scorers with 25 points.  Zach Ferguson scored 16 and Anthony Stitt added 14.

The Patriots came out of halftime with a strong second half, but it wasn’t enough.  Brandon Davis led Indy with 21 points.  Ivan Blair hit for 14 points and Christian Truesdale scored 12.

The Butler girls capped a memorable regular season with a 70-31 win over Independence last Friday.  The win gave the Bulldogs a perfect 14-0 record in the Southwestern 4A Conference and a 24-0 record for the regular season.

Independence has made vast improvements to their team, more than doubling their win total from last season.  As most of the Patriot players are underclassmen, look for Indy to improve yet again next year.


Stallings couple claims $1 million prize one day before ticket to expire

Raleigh and Erin Hill of Stallings got $1 million richer.

Erin and Raleigh Hill of Stallings shared a $1 million win in the N.C. Education Lottery’s Mega Millions game, claiming the prize one day before the winning ticket was scheduled to expire.

Raleigh Hill, a baggage handler, said he discovered that his $2 Megaplier ticket had matched all five white balls, earning him and his wife an automatic $1 million prize, a couple of weeks after the August 20 drawing. But he said he waited about two or three weeks more to tell his wife, Erin, a federal government employee. He said he finally told his wife at the end of a bad day for her.

“Things aren’t all that bad,” he told her as he left the winning ticket on a computer screen after displaying the winning numbers. Continue reading
