Update on fatal accident last night in Mint Hill

Mint Hill Police have identified the driver and notified the next of kin of the motorcyclist killed in a crash on 1-20-2011 in Mint Hill.  The driver of the motorcycle was Richard E Cullinan Jr (41) of Mint Hill. (Cullinhan’s Facebook page.) He was operating a 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on NC 51 approaching the intersection with Evans Road.  A Ford Windstar Van, operated by Regina Williams (55) of Mint Hill, was attempting to turn left onto NC 51 from Evans Road pulled into the path of the motorcycle.  Mr. Cullinan was unable to avoid colliding with the van.  After striking the van Mr. Cullinan was unable to control the motorcycle and subsequently laid the motorcycle on its side in the northbound lane of NC 51.  Mr. Cullinan came off of the motorcycle where he was struck by a Jeep Cherokee, operated by Diane Marshburn (59) of Midland, that was traveling north on NC 51.

The preliminary investigation is complete and it does not appear that speed was a factor in the collision.  Several other factors are still under investigation and witnesses are continuing to be interviewed.  After the investigation is complete the file will be presented to the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office for review and any charges that may result.
