Two separate fires this weekend in Matthews resulted in damage to a home and an apartment complex.The first fire occurred Saturday around 3 p.m. at the Berkshires of Matthews off Chamber Ridge Drive. Three apartments sustained damage in the fire which started as a result of paper catching fire in ductwork. Damage is estimated at
$15,000.
The second fire happened around 7 p.m. Saturday at a home located at 818 Lightwood Road. The house was significantly damaged by the fire and estimated to be $80,000. The cause of the fire was electrical. No one was injured.
The Red Cross is assisting the residents from both fires.
