The Town of Matthews has implemented a new downtown parking plan. The new regulations include designating several parking areas as 2 hour parking, 30 minute parking and 24 hour parking. Signage detailing the new rules is now up and is easy to read.
“We hope that the new signage and marking of the spaces will make it easier for people to understand where and for how long they can park in our downtown area,” said Town Manager Hazen Blodgett. The plan is the result of meetings with downtown business owners on how to better improve parking in the downtown area. “With several new businesses in the downtown area and Wingate University’s increased student enrollment we want to ensure that people who are visiting our downtown understand where our short-term and long-term parking is located,” he added.
The plan primarily concerns parking in and around Matthews Station Street. The area around the Village Green in front of the Matthews Town Hall and Library facility is now two hour parking. Parking behind Beantown Tavern and Wingate University is 24 hour parking on Old Depot Lane. Ample 24 hour parking is also available in a lot off Trade Street along the railroad tracks. The new parking plan offers a variety of convenient parking options for people who may be in the downtown area for 30 minutes or several hours.
In addition to the new signage a map detailing downtown parking options is available online at www.matthewsnc.com.
