Butler and Independence volleyball teams start playoffs tomorrow

Butler (15-9) will head to Winston Salem to play Mount Tabor (24-3) and Independence (10-13) will travel to Lake Norman (25-2) tomorrow in the first round of the CLASS 4-A WEST volleyball playoffs.

Both teams have respectable records, but other teams and matches in the playoffs illustrate just how incomprehensible the requirements are to get into the postseason. For example, Mooresville (11-8) will have to travel (!!) to Sun Valley (4-16) for their first round game. Even worse, Hopewell is 26-3 and is one of the best teams in the state. What is their reward? They have to travel to Indian Trail Porter Ridge (8-16) for their first round match.

Deer runs into Food Lion in Mint Hill

A deer last night ran into the glass at a dry cleaners, shattering the glass, then ran in front of the automatic doors at the Food Lion next door and walked in. This happened at the Food Lion at Idlewild Road and Highway 51. The deer then went to one of the aisles and laid down. Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Control captured the deer and then released it unharmed into the woods behind the grocery store. No one was hurt.
