Someone from this area could be $1 million richer if only they would come forward with a winning ticket that was sold last month. The North Carolina Education Lottery announced yesterday that the ticket is still unaccounted for. Winners have 180 days to claim the prize, so by February, if no one comes forward, then the money stays with the NCEL. The ticket, which matched all five white balls in the Friday, August 20 Mega Millions drawing, was sold at the Market Express on Old Monroe Road in Matthews. (Technically this is in Union County.)
