Is Stallings Police Department shutting down?

Tomorrow is National Night Out, when police departments across the country hold events to educate the public on how to better stay safe in the community. (Mint Hill’s is tomorrow from 6:30 to 8 pm at Mint Hill Festival.) If you are in Stallings, you may not be able to count on the town’s police department to keep you safe in the near future. Mayor Lynda Paxton said she wants to look into closing it down and letting Union County Police handle public safety. Does she want to close the police station because they will save money, or because she has a gripe with some of the officers for openly supporting her opponent in the last election?

There is absolutely no vendetta. There is tension in the department. There has always been, partly because of some people trying to stir things up in the community,” says Paxton.
