A press release from Matthews.

Do you enjoy keeping things in meticulous order? Are you looking for a way to make a difference in your community? If you have a couple hours a week to spare, the Matthews Branch Library would like you to join our team of talented, committed volunteers that enhance library staff in providing excellent library service to our community. Surging demand for library services has increased the need for “Circulation Assistants” that can retrieve library materials, maintain library book displays, sort and shelve books, CDs, and other library materials and participate in special projects. We are seeking to fill 50 volunteer positions from the community with residents who are able to consistently donate two or more hours a week for a 6 month commitment. Available volunteer shifts would be for afternoons Monday
– Thursday from 2 – 6 p.m. and Fridays between 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays between 12 – 5 p.m.
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library greatly values library volunteers as their contributions in time total
more than twenty five thousand hours of service each year at a market value of a half million dollars. The
Matthews Branch Library staff could not provide such a high level of service to the community without the
support and dedication of our team of wonderful library volunteers.
Prospective volunteers must be at least 14 years old and can apply online through the public library’s
website – http://plcmc.org/about_us/get_involved/volunteerapp.asp or in person at the Matthews Branch
Library. The Matthews Branch Library will accept volunteer applications for the current recruitment
through Friday, August 6. New volunteers will also be expected to attend a mandatory orientation session
on either Monday, August 16 from 4 – 6 p.m. or on Thursday, August 19 from 10 a.m. – noon. In efforts
to increase safety measures, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library requires criminal background checks on all
new volunteers. For more information call Matthews Branch Library Volunteer Liaison, Nancy Granzen, at
