Mint Hill Junior Legion loses Saturday, knocked out of playoffs

It has been a great season for the American Legion Teams in Mint Hill. The Junior team was just one win away from going to the state tournament in Cary until Belmont beat them 10-4 Saturday.

For 40 years, the Mint Hill Team was known as “Newell” because of their association with the Newell VFW. This year, they were officially called “Mint Hill” because of their sponsorship by Mint Hill VFW Post 4059. Here are some pictures from Saturday’s game. Photos are by Tim Long.

Mint Hill Junior Legion plays Belmont tonight at Independence High School; Winner goes to the state tourney

The Mint Hill Junior Legion team Post 4059 plays Belmont tonight for the chance to go to the state tournament. The game starts at 7 pm at Independence High School. According to Mint Hill coaches, Belmont fans were rowdy during the series. Mint Hill won last night 12-11 at South Point High School in Gaston County. Belmont fans travel well and will pack the stands tonight at IHS. Mint Hill residents: Come out tonight and show your support for Mint Hill’s Junior Legion team, and see some great baseball.
