The Democratic Party has controlled the North Carolina Senate for over one hundred years. Republicans only controlled the NC House for four years during that time. And while there have been two Republican Governors in the last century, neither had a veto or the ability to change the law in any way, shape or form.
While the locals who received favors praise the politicians who betrayed the public trust to play favorites, the fact is this region has been shortchanged big time on roads, clean water trust fund grants, and even education funding. We can and must do better. Open, honest and accountable government is essential if we are to reverse our current economic woes.
I think it would be best for our elected officials to be willing to work with members of both parties to get things done. We need representatives who are ready to work for us in Raleigh and whose main goal is not to pick fights with members of the party in charge.
