Overseas troops get chance to see Butler-Britt championship

­ Fort Bragg soldiers, currently deployed, will be able to watch their sons play in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-AA football championship game. The Butler vs. Jack Britt 4AA title game will be streamed live onNews14.com so that soldiers can access the game from overseas. The game
will also be televised live by Time Warner Cable on News 14 Carolina.
Kickoff is at 7:30 pm on Saturday.

Gov. Perdue announces (24,000!) NC census jobs available

Gov. Bev Perdue today signed Executive Order No. 33 creating the North Carolina Complete Count Committee to coordinate Census activities at the state level. In addition, Gov. Perdue announced that 24,000 Census jobs will be available throughout North Carolina

The Census Bureau will be hiring for 24,000 jobs throughout North Carolina beginning in January 2010. Job seekers can find application information at www.2010censusjobs.gov or by calling 1-866-861-2010. The information is also available via the Employment Security Commission or JobsNOW.nc.gov. Some jobs will begin as early as January, while most will begin in February and March, and will extend until June or July. […]

Myrick thanks Senators for willingness to give up health care

Representative Sue Myrick (NC-09) today thanked Senators Tom Coburn, David Vitter, Richard Burr and Charles Grassley for their health care amendment to automatically enroll the President, Vice President, Cabinet Members, Administration staff, Members of Congress and Congressional staff into a government-run health care plan should it be signed into law.

“I appreciate these Senators being the voices of reason in the Senate,” said Rep. Myrick.  “It’s only fair that if Congress votes to take away the rights of the American people to make decisions regarding their health care, then those rights should no longer be extended to us.” […]
