Independence shows Can-do attitude

On Saturday, November 14, Independence students competed in the Can-Struction event for the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering Mentors club.  The event was from 9 am to 1 pm at the Independence Plaza on Trade and Tryon downtown.  The goal was to make a structure using only cans that can stand unsupported for a week.  The cans were donated by ACE mentors, Independence students and staff, and the Leo Club.   All cans will be donated to 2nd Harvest Metrolina Food Bank.

Independence students competed against Myers Parks and West Charlotte chapters of the ACE Mentors club.  Each school constructed an object; Myers Park made an iPhone and West Charlotte built a lion.  However, the Independence iPod was easily the most ambitious and technically challenging project of the event. Person robbed at knife point last week at Mint Hill Food Lion

Officers responded to the Food Lion located at 8118 Blair Road in Mint Hill last Thursday in reference to an armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot. The victim reported that a white vehicle, driven by a young white male, pulled up to her car while she was loading her groceries in her vehicle and a black male exited the passenger side and approached the victim. The black male demanded that the victim give up her purse and wielded a knife. The victim turned over her purse and the suspects left the scene. […]
