mint_hillSeptember is Library Card Sign-up Month, and the Mint Hill branch of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library wants to make sure that all children in Mint Hill have the smartest card of all – a library card.
Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.

Mint Hill Branch Manager David Sniffin said the library is a great place for kids and adults.

“There are a wealth of activities and resources for kids and their families, and we encourage them to visit us for the first time, or get reacquainted with your library and see the changes and how the library has grown.  There’s a lot happening at the Mint Hill Branch, and the best part for both kids and parents is that it’s all free with a library card!”

Activities at the Mint Hill Library during Library Card Sign-up Month include:
·        Stories at Sundown – A program where you can enjoy old-fashioned stories and a surprise or two!
o       Tuesday September 22 @ 4:00 pm
·        Paws Awhile to Read – A special reading program designed to build confidence in children who might be hesitant embarrassed, or shy about their reading abilities. Each child reads one-on-one with a trained therapy dog for a 15-minute session.
o       Saturday, September 12 @  10:30 a.m. (Space is limited and registration begins August 31)
·        Storytimes for various ages – Each week we provide storytimes and programs for various age groups that will both entertain and stimulate learning in your child:
o       Baby & Me- Mondays @ 10 am: Ages Birth-14 months.
An introduction to books, rhymes, and songs for your baby.
o       Young & Restless- Mondays @ 11am: Ages 15-23 months.
Little “movers and shakers” will enjoy their own storytime!
o       Terrific Toddlers- Thursdays @ 11:15am: Age 2.
A storytime for you and your toddler.
o       Proud Preschoolers- Thursdays @ 10:15am: Ages 3-5.

Getting a library card is easy.  Residents of Mecklenburg County are encouraged to register for their free library membership the next time they visit Mint Hill or any of the 24 locations system-wide.
Observed since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month is a time when the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all.
