$500,000 lottery ticket sold in Mint Hill

Steven Smith of Indian Trail and Wael Salem of Charlotte are the latest to win half a million dollars in the“$500,000 Jackpot” instant scratch-off game.

Their winning ticket, worth $340,003.20 after taxes, was bought at Xpress Mart #4 on Wilgrove-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill.

Smith says he was in shock and couldn’t believe it when he realized the ticket he bought was worth the top prize. Salem says it feels great to win.

One ticket matched all five numbers drawn in the Sept. 12 “Carolina Cash 5” drawing and is worth $178,887! The ticket was sold at Cubbard Express on Northeast 16th Street in Hickory. It has yet to be claimed.

In the Saturday, Sept. 12 Powerball drawing, two tickets matched four out of five white balls plus the Powerball and are worth $10,000 each. The tickets were sold at Food Lion on South Horner Boulevard in Sanford and Handy Mart on U.S. 13 North in Goldsboro.

A total of 47,397 North Carolina Powerball players won prizes in the Saturday, Sept. 12 Powerball drawing ranging from $10,000 to $3 for a total payout in prizes worth $274,566. No one matched all five white balls plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for the Saturday, Sept. 12 Powerball drawing is an estimated $95 million.

The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) has paid out more than $5.5 million total in instant scratch-off ticket prizes since Thursday, Sept. 10. Also since Thursday, “Carolina Pick 3” players have won nearly $730,000. “Carolina Pick 4” players have won more than $278,000 and 7 tickets won the top prize of $5,000. “Carolina Cash 5” players have won nearly $310,000.
