Construction on the newest park in Matthews will begin this November. You can be a part of this project by purchasing a customized brick for only $50.
The park will be dedicated in memory of Kay Plyler, the former Assistant Town Manager of Matthews, who died tragically in 2008. The official name of the park will be KP Park – Kay’s family and friends called her “KP”.
The pocket park will be built at the intersection of Matthews-Mint Hill Road and Matthews Station Street – adjacent to Matthews Town Hall. The park will be a small area where people may gather, relax and enjoy the outdoors. The park will have benches, a pergola, plants and trees. A sculpture with an equestrian theme will also be included in the park. The sculpture honors Kay’s love of horses.
$20,000 has been approved for this project and the Town would like to sell 1,000 bricks in order to raise the additional funds needed for the construction of the park. Bricks may be purchased for $50, $100, or $250. You may customize the brick with your own language, clip art or logos. Your purchase of a brick is tax deductible. The deadline for purchasing a brick(s) is November 15.
Construction is expected to begin in November and the park is expected to be completed by May 2010.
