Mint Hill Rotary receives check for Flight of Honor trip

Tina Ross, Joe Epley, Gary Brown and George Linker.

George Linker (far right) and Joe Epley, representatives of the Wheeler James Chamber (Chap. VI) of the Special Forces Association, presented a check from the chapter for $1,100 to Gary Brown and Tina Ross Duke of the Mint Hill Rotary Club. The funds will go to the Flight of Honor program sponsored by the Rotary Clubs from Rotary district 7680.  The Rotarians from throughout the western Piedmont of North Carolina are chartering an air bus to take World War II veterans to Washington to view the WWII memorial.  The WWII vets do not have to  pay anything for the trip.  Most can’t afford it and many have  health problems that require someone to escort them.   Brown and Dennis Myers are going along as escorts.  The escorts pay their own way.

Brown served with Linker and Epley in Co B, 20th SFGA and was with SSG Wheeler James when he was accidentally killed  while on an unconventional warfare field training exercise in the Louisiana swamps in 1967.
