The Town of Matthews will continue its maintenance on Town streets this summer. The first project includes patching streets in the Heathers subdivision area. McCollum and Associates won the bid to do the work. The bid was $59,200, plus the ability to add additional streets if needed. McCollum and Associates have worked successfully on street projects in the Town previously. This work is underway.

The Town will also resurface streets in the Windrow and Windrow II subdivisions. These streets were last resurfaced in 1990. Rea Contracting has won the bids for this project. The bid was $222,782. These streets have been patched under contract in preparation for the resurfacing. The streets which will be paved include: Andulusian Drive, Cannonade Court, Connemara Drive, Double Girth Court, Five Gate Court, Gladiateur Court, Gold Cup Court, Hackamore Drive, High Echelon Drive, Light Brigade Drive, Mill House Drive, Percheron Court, Pommel Lane, Toms Farm Road, Triple Crown Court, and Whirlaway Court. This project is expected to begin in two weeks.

The Town uses money from both The Powell Bill fund, along with the vehicle tag fees, that were increased last year to pay for these street projects.

“The Town places an emphasis on having safe streets that are well maintained. Over the years improvements in road equipment and materials have resulted in the ability to do preventive maintenance on streets before they breakdown to the point where more costly repairs and resurfacing is necessary. We will continue to do this preventive patching, along with a new crack sealing program to stretch our paving budget.” said Public Works Director Ralph Messera.
