Blues win first tournament of summer

The Carolina Blues

The Carolina Blues

The Carolina Blues were all smiles last weekend after capturing the first place trophy for the “One Day Shoot-out” sanctioned by the AAU girl’s fast-pitch softball organization, in Concord, N.C.
The Blues are Mint Hill-Indian Trail-Matthews girls who play girls fast-pitch tournament travel ball in the 16U age bracket.
They won four out of five games played and won the tournament championship by defeating the Stanly County Fireballs 4-3. The Fireballs had beaten the Blues, their only loss, earlier in the day, 5-1.
This is the Blues first  tournament win in the young summer season.  They are planning on bringing home more of the “bling” as the summer progresses.
The team is coached by Tony Brizendine and he is assisted by Kevin McCutchen.
Team Members: Katie and Lauren Brizendine, Sara Carson, Heather Darr, Hannah Doll, Taylor Flynn, Taylor Freeman, Morgan Henry, Sophie Moore, Alex Nystrom, Katie Pearsall, Jordan Query, Julia Sanders, Shea Shefte, Emily Williams. The bat girl for the team (and in the picture) is Macy Henry.
Many play for the Butler HS JV fast pitch team, and the rest play for their varsity teams at Ardrey Kell, Hickory Grove Baptist, Cabarrus, and Union County schools, among others.
They are together this summer for travel tournaments in NC-SC and are heading up to Roanoke, VA. in July, for the NSA Fast Pitch World Series, where they will compete against teams from all over the mid-Atlantic, and Southeastern states.
