$50,000 lottery ticket purchased at Food Lion on Monroe Road

060320103Three North Carolina Powerball tickets are worth $50,000 each following the Saturday, May 30 Powerball drawing. The Power Play multiplier was five and each matched four out of five white balls plus the Power Ball. The tickets, sold in New Bern as well as Mecklenburg and Onslow counties, have yet to be claimed. The ticket in Mecklenburg County was sold at the Food Lion at Sardis and Monroe roads.


New classes offered at Matthews Crews Recreation Center

Line Dancin'
Two new classes will be offered at the Crews Road Recreation Center in Matthews: Line Dancing and Linercise.

Line Dancing: Learn easy and fun-to-do line dance steps to a variety of music such as Big Band Era, Broadway Show tunes and Country. Everyone welcome, no experience necessary and no partner needed. Wear comfortable shoes, preferably with smooth soles. Class is on Wednesdays, from 4-5 pm, beginning June 3. Cost is $3 per class.

Linercise: A low-impact, up-tempo line dancing class with stretching, light weights lifting and moves to improve your breathing and balance. It’s a light-hearted class done to fun music. Class is on Mondays, 4-5 pm, beginning June 1. Cost is $3 per class.

Health talk this weekend at MH Farmers’ Market

100_7238This Saturday, June 6, the Charlotte Medical Clinic—Mint Hill will offer the second in a series of Health Talks presented by the doctors at the clinic. Dr. Stephanie Simon presented the first workshop on osteoporosis and provided free bone density screenings. (See picture.)  On Saturday, Dr. Glen Powell will speak to visitors about menopause, at 10am in the Ashcraft Schoolhouse at the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village. Once a month during the Farmers’ Market, a doctor from CMC will speak on another subject and offer other free screenings.


Heathfield holds third annual golf tournament


Heathfield subdivision in Mint Hill hosted its third annual Heathfield Golf Tournament on May 30 at Emerald Lake Golf Club. Nine players in teams of three competed in the captain’s choice golf tournament. The Heathfield Golf Tournament Champions were: John Ziegler, Tim Carney and Greg Wilson, all Heathfield residents. Other trophy winners included: Longest Drive-Greg Wilson and Closest to the Pin-Barry Crowell.
