Butler student wins Duke Energy scholarship

Duke Energy  announced today that 20 children of company employees have been selected to receive 2009 Duke Energy Foundation scholarships. Evan Phillips, a student at Butler High School, won one of the scholarships. He is the son of Kim Phillips. Fifteen recipients will receive up to $5,000 per year for up to four consecutive years of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. Mint Hill Women’s Club releases disbursement numbers

In their 34 year history, the Mint Hill Women’s Club has given approximately $86,000 back to the community .  Their primary fundraiser is conducting LIVE/SILENT auction that is held each November. Disbursement of 2008-2009 proceeds were given as follows:

2 $1,000 CPCC scholarships (students residing in Mint Hill)
$1,000 Mint Hill Fire & Ambulance
$800 Mint Hill Library
$800 Local Elders / Families In Need
$500 Idlewild Volunteer Fire Department
$300 Mint Hill Historical Society
$300 Soldier Recognition
$250 Mint Hill Lion’s Club
$210 Samaritan’s Purse (Operation Christmas Child)
$200 Crisis Assistance Ministry (to be matched)
$200 Mint Hill Arts Council
$100 Earth Echoe’s Children’s Museum of Mint Hill
Also, in January 2009 a Card/Game Party was sponsored by the Mint Hill Women’s Club on behalf of the Levine Senior Center.  There were approximately 170 attendees who enjoyed a variety of great food and a chance to win over 50 door-prizes.  This event raised $1,000 for the Levine Senior Center.  Plans are being made to have a similar activity before year-end.
