Proud moms alert: two from area win scholarships

Kayla Tackett won a $1,000 scholarship last week at the Pop Warner Scholarship Tribute in Winston Salem, N.C.  Kayla was a first team scholar, meaning she was ranked in the top 2 percent of 410,000 children that took part in the scholars programs.  The $1,000 scholarship came from the Mecklenburg County Optimist Club, Daniel R. “Doc” Watson Memorial Scholarship and Pop Warner and will be kept in a reserve fund for her.  […]

Five men arrested for armed robbery in Mint Hill

Mint Hill Police, with the help of CMPD, arrested five men in connection with an armed robbery Wednesday at the Colonial Village at Greystone Apartments (9610 Stoney Glen Drive). Two firearms were found inside the suspect vehicle. Nico Buckle and Guy Maldonado were charged with Armed Robbery of a Person and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. Buckle has been arrested five times in the past year and a half, while Maldonado has been arrested six times in the past year and half, including larceny last month. […]
