Independence student wins scholarship

Yaluba Conteh is the Independence High School PTSA Scholarship recipient for the 2008-2009 school year. Yaluba is a senior and will receive a $500 PTSA scholarship to be used toward college. He would like to pursue a bachelors degree in Counseling Psychology. He has a 3.5577 grade point average and has applied to UNC Charlotte, UNC Greensboro, UNC Pembroke, Wingate University and Western Carolina. He and his parents have been apart of the PTSA for at least two years. His teachers and school counselor gave him a very high recommendation.

Butler literary magazine to publish final edition

Friday marks the 12th and final edition of Butler High School’s Pawprint Literary Magazine. The Pawprint 2009 Literary Magazine release party and Artists Tea will be held at 1 pm in the Media Center. The award winning Butler jazz band will provide entertainment throughout the event. Because of budget cuts the creative writing class will no longer be offered to students as an elective.
