Mecklenburg County is pleased to announce its participation in Recycle and Win, a joint coke-can.jpgeffort with the City of Charlotte, the towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville, Coca-Cola and Harris Teeter that will make recycling easier and more rewarding than ever.
Residents of Mecklenburg County will receive a packet in the mail that will include a list of recycling dos and don’ts and an official Coca-Cola program sticker. To participate, follow the recycling tips, and place the sticker on your recycling bin. If the Prize Patrol sees the sticker on a bin full of appropriate recyclables, you will win a $50 gift card to Harris Teeter. The Prize Patrol will award 10 gift cards a week for one year.
The program kicks off Feb. 2, 2009.

Recycle and Win is a valuable asset for the County’s Solid Waste Services department and Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful program because it helps boost recycling rates and educate residents about recycling. Recycling is more important than ever, and educating the public about best recycling practices is the first step toward a cleaner and greener Mecklenburg County.
“Education is the best weapon I’ve got,” says Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful’s executive director, Jake Wilson. “This increases recycling awareness all around. It’s a win-win situation for us and for the environment.”
Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. Its mission is to empower residents of Mecklenburg County to take responsibility for the environment and instill a sense of community pride through environmental stewardship.
