Rob Blumberg has worked the Mint Hill area as a UPS delivery man for 23 years. Friday was his last day, as[singlepic=295,320,240,,right] Rob hangs up his brown shorts permanently. At the suggestion of many of Rob’s customers, the Mint Hill Times wanted to feature him in an article. But he was embarrassed by the attention and didn’t want to be in the spotlight. Luckily, we saw his brown truck Friday at Evans Import Services, next to the Mint Hill Times offices. It was one of his last stops.

Rob told us he will miss his customers, but the time is right for him to move on and do something else. He said two heart operations in the past 10 years has given him a new outlook on life, and he’s ready to see what life is like without the brown truck. He said he had shed many tears Friday, sharing memories with customers as well as lamenting the last day doing something he has done for 36 years.

How well did Mint Hill get to know Rob? Whitney at Evans Import Service asked Rob what he doing to celebrate the momentous day. Rob said he was going to Outback Steakhouse and his girlfriend was treating. Not so fast. Whitney had just handed him a card with a gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse. “Be sure to open the card before you go to dinner,” Whitney said with a wink.
