Butler football game notes

Game notes:

• Despite the rain for most of the day and night, the turf on the field held up well. The rain also didn’t prevent fans from attending the game. East Meck fans filled the visitor’s side–the biggest showing by an a opponent’s fans this season.

• Robert Blanton, watching the game from the sidelines, was overheard saying he wishes he could be out there playing for the Bulldogs. […]

Car crashes into restaurant on Albemarle Road

If you were up early this morning and were driving along Albemarle Road, you might have noticed EMS on Farm Pond Road. They were responding to an incident where a car plowed into the Paradise Gardens restaurant. There’s no word on injuries or damage. The incident occurred at 6:30 am.

Patriots pounce on Providence

Independence got off to quick start Friday against Providence. How quick? Less than three minutes into the game, the Patriots lead 14-0. They put up 31 more points in the first half, an additional 21 points in the second half, and beat Providence 59-13 on a drizzly, sometimes windy night.

The victory renewed head coach Tom Knotts’ confidence in his team, and something that even he couldn’t dream.
“I don’t think anybody in the state could have beat us,” he said. “I think that ought to serve notice that we’re the top dog, and they have to knock us off.”
