Notice the bulldozers at the corner of Evans and Lawyers roads? They are clearing land for the new sidewalk which will connect Lawyers Glen with Brighton Park. The sidewalk was approved at the September 25 Board of Commissioners meeting by a 4-1 vote.

The Independence Athletic Booster Club is having its annual barbeque sale from 11 am to 7 pm today in front of the gym. The booster club is trying to raise funds for the athletic program. Maybe one day, Independence will have a scoreboard similar to the new scoreboard at Providence.
Providence will also present the first of 10 donations to CMS athletic department during tonight’s game between the Panthers and the South Meck Sabres.
For years, Rep. Sue Myrick tried to bring an immigration court to Charlotte. Finally, she has gotten her wish. The court will be located at 5701 Executive Center Drive, which is off of Albemarle Road and will open November 4 of this year.
“This has been a long time coming,” said Rep. Myrick. “An immigration court will speed up illegal alien deportations. It will also help legal immigrants playing by the rules because they will no longer have to travel to Atlanta to deal with immigration matters.”

A lot is going on tomorrow at Independence High. It’s homecoming against Ardrey Kell, kickoff is at 7 pm. But you should stop by between 11 am and 6:30 pm to pick up some Stallings Rock Store Bar-B-Q from the Independence booster club. Funds raised benefit the club.
The game is WBTV’s high school Game of the Week. WBTV will also be in the parking lot filming people tailgating before the game and feature the band. Charlotte radio station 96.1 The Beat will be in the parking lot at 4:30 pm blasting music.
