chemistry.jpgTwo Independence High School students recently particpated in the American Chemical Society’s Project SEED program. Anastasiya Draga studied the “electrochemical and spectroscopic studies of hexacoordiate polypyridylsilicon (IV) complexes” with mentor Dr. Thomas Schmedake and Michele Johnson studied the “design and synthesis of nanoscale catalysts for biomass conversion” with mentor Dr. Sherine Obare.

They spent eight weeks this past summer working with scientists at UNC-Charlotte performing high-tech research. The students will present their research projects and talk about their experience at the ACS Carolina-Piedmont chapter meeting held at Hickory Tavern (9010 Harris Corners Parkway) tonight at 6 pm.
