Who’s eligible for CMS free or reduced lunches?

According to a recent report by the Carolina Journal, a verification review found that two-thirds of students in free or reduced lunch programs are ineligible. The school system spends millions each year providing free and reduced lunches. The board will vote October 14 if they want to dig deeper to see who’s cheating to get the free lunches or let it slide. One board member said she doesn’t think there’s any cheating going on. Said Vilma Leake:

“Poor people don’t know how to steal from the federal government. They’re not smart enough,” said school board member Vilma Leake, an opponent of the school lunch audit.
