Police Chief Tim Ledford was sworn in last week by Mayor Ted Biggers[singlepic=50,220,140,watermark,right] during the Board of Commissioners meeting. 

“That oath means a great deal to me,” Ledford said in an interview. “When I repeat that oath, I mean it and want to abide by what it stands for.”

The ceremony drew a crowd including about 10 Mint Hill police officers and four TV news stations from Charlotte. The news stations left after Ledford was sworn in.

Other town meeting news:

•Employees serving more than 10 days active duty in the Reserves or National Guard no longer need approval from the town manager for leave of absence without pay.

•Parade permits were approved the Lions Club 5K run and the Mint Hill Madness parade. The Lions Club run is September 6 at 8 am, and the Madness parade is September 29 at 9:30 am.
