The Butler Bulldogs and Independence Patriots scrimmaged against local high school football teams yesterday. Butler scrimmaged the Olympic Trojans at 8 am, and the Patriots faced the Charlotte Catholic Cougars at 7 pm. The atmosphere was more relaxed at Butler with parents bringing folding chairs… to watch their sons play on Butler’s practice field. Independence felt like a fall Friday night. The Patriot coaches wore headsets as their team played under the lights in Patriot Stadium. The concession stand was open, and the announcer was in the booth. He was nice enough to remind everybody it was only Tuesday, and they did have to go to work the next morning. The Butler and Independence junior varsity squads also logged some time on the field.
