Providence High is the third victim this summer of high school property damage. Arsonists set fire to three sheds near the school’s softball field. Two sheds housed Panther football practice equipment and the third was used by the Matthews Athletic Association. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools estimated the fires caused roughly $31,000 in damage.
Security cameras at the school caught a dark-colored sedan on Providence school grounds that night.
Butler High and Northeast Middle were also vandalized earlier this summer. Perpetrators broke windows at the schools, and they destroyed televisions and computers at Butler. The damage at Butler and Northeast was an estimated $58,000.
No suspect has been named in either case. Please contact CMS police or Matthews police if you have any information.
