Thirty children from Martial Arts Carolina visited the Earth Echoes Children’s Museum on Matthews-Mint Hill Road Thursday. The children tried on masks from around the world, played music on global instruments, made some arts and crafts, and learned about Charlotte’s seven sister cities. The Children’s World Museum features 25,000 items from around the world collected by Jerry and Sue Helms. The museum opened in early July.
The Mecklenburg County justice system is broken according to a report by the by the Justice and Public Safety Task Force. Task force co-chairman Harry Nurkin cited billboards at the North Carolina and South Carolina border stating The Palmetto State is tougher on crime than The Tar Heel State. Continue reading
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said yesterday it found three players ineligible at Butler and Independence high schools.
After an investigation by CMS Law Enforcement, one Butler High School varsity football player and one Butler High basketball player were declared ineligible. The students violated a CMS residency rule by falsifying their addresses. A junior varsity football player from Independence High School was also declared ineligible for violating the same CMS residency rule. One of the Butler students has already graduated; the other students who were not at their correct home schools will be sent to the correct schools for the 2008-2009 school year.
CMS did not release the students’ names in its press release. According to the CMS communications department, the ineligible players were discovered by tips sent to CMS Law Enforcement. The tip can come in the form of an e-mail, phone call or simply seeing CMS Athletic Director Vicki Hamilton in public and telling her directly. All tips, according to CMS, are investigated.
