Ryan Houston looks lean and mean at UNC

Last year, former Butler Bulldog Ryan Houston entered UNC weighing a whopping 273 pounds–as a running back! He netted 145 yards and scored one TD playing a back-up role for the 2007 Heels. This season, Scout.com reports, he’s at 240 pounds and looks like a new man. He’s listed at No. 2 on the Tar Heel depth chart, but look for him to make huge strides this season. Butler’s head Coach Mike Newsome said he could one day see Houston playing in the NFL. He seems to be on the right path.

Twelve students from Butler High School, along with 36 other CMS high school students from Philip O. Berry, Myers Park and Vance high schools, will head out for an adventure tomorrow morning. The students will participate in Outward Bound in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The trip will last eight days and the students “will learn decision-making and leadership skills while rock-climbing and backpacking.” Sounds like a nice vacation before school starts.

Memories of Eastland Mall?

I’m working on a story about the future of Eastland Mall. But you can’t look at the future without looking at the past. Feel free to e-mail adam@minthilltimes.com if you have any memories of working at the mall, shopping during the holiday season, or repeatedly falling on Eastland’s famous ice rink.

The story will be published August 7 in The Mint Hill Times, and your comments could be included.
