East Meck clipped for football violations

Will the blood ever stop in the investigations of high school sports programs in CMS? This time it’s East Meck in the news. The school was hit with recruiting, practice and eligiblity violations. In addition to the suspension of the coach until September 2, the suspension of an assistant coach for two years, the loss of the AD, and a $7,000+ fine, the school will have to forfeit its 2007 season.

Bridges at Mint Hill update

The Bridges at Mint Hill halted grading yesterday, but no worries. Town Manager Brian Welch met with mall officials Wednesday night and they told him the onsite work got ahead of the offsite work. Work at the construction site will begin again sometime at the beginning of next year. Welch also said the mall officials told him they are still 100% committed to building the mall.

Newell game postponed

The Newell American Legion baseball game Tuesday night at Ardrey Kell was postponed because of lightning, despite the calling from Newell players and fans to finish the game. Newell was leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Game 3 of the series against rival Pineville will be played tonight at 7 pm at Ardrey Kell. Players entertained themselves last night during the two-hour weather delay by singing songs by artists including boy band N’SYNC and rapper Lil’ Wayne. Catcher Darrall Simmons used props to entertain the small crowd huddled in the dugout.
